Hey I’m 19 years old and just starting to try golf this year. I can hit with a driver but I usually hit straight up. I have a hard time choosing how to not hit it up as high as I am. Does anyone have any tips for a new golfer such as myself? I’ve only maxed out hitting 250 and I know thats not much but I started 2 months ago and try the range once a week usually. Thank you for any advice :)

do not use effort with your arms, just relax and swing , keep the eyes on the ball, and u solve the problems. I working on that…

@remmy100 I’m a self taught golfer who had a couple lessons when I was 17. Played for about 1 year very rarely, perhaps once a month. Didn’t play for 5 years and have only in the past 3 months started again. I am 22 and at the moment can hit my driver staight 280 yards. Never hit a driver or owned a driver before. My love is the short game though through my sw, lob and putter. Trying to get better at hitting 7, 6 5 from the fairway or rough and also woods from there. I now have a handicap of 18.

@tomsmith100 thats precisely the problem i have. with practice swings, i brush the ground everytime, but as soon as i put a ball down i immediately hit DOWN on the ball gauging canyons in the dirt.

as a golf coach on the other side of the world. i do agree. Most amateurs have these same ideas. Very interesting.

  15. tomsmith100 says:

@redbull23952395 May need to have a higher tee position? Its a SWING not a HIT. Like Ringer said, forget the ball.

  20. RingerDaMan says:

@imwrittingmyname Congratulations man! Please let me know how it goes. When do you leave?

  21. imwrittingmyname says:

@niksinthe916 Thanks for the advice! All i needed was a little practicing and taking the club back better and tempo. I’m so happy because I made the 2010 U.S. World Amateur Team. Peter Langley!!! One of the 3 chosen, how prestigous. :)

  22. rcminit109 says:

Whenever i hit my driver, it gets no lift. i dont know if its the tee height or my swing. plz help.

  23. mrbritvic says:

hey mister redbull try a stiffer shafted driver -i did exactly the same when i bought a club with too whippy a shaft- the club head cant catch up with your swing and you are lifting before the club hits the ball -worked for me -good luck

  24. niksinthe916 says:

@imwrittingmyname Is it a slice or an undesirable fade? I have a natural fade in my swing. If your shooting a scratch score it’s most likely an open club face issue with an undesirable fade. This fades the ball not so much SLICE. A slice will move right almost immediately after Impact. I would not recommend standing closer to the ball. Try working on the range. If the tournament comes before you can work things out then avoid hitting the driver instead and go with the 3 wood.
